A message from our friends at United Neighbors

We have ANOTHER Win!

Hi All!

It is with profound gratitude to all of you, who collectively sent thousands of letters to our LA Delegation, that we can announce that AB 2005 has been defeated! This was the bill that would allow LLCs to use SB 9 lot splitting and pass the ownership/occupancy requirement to the new owners. SB 9 had an ownership requirement to prevent LLC’s from doing just that.

This was a tough bill to defeat because it had little opposition when it went through the Assembly. As you all know, when state bills pass both chambers they become state law which makes them impossible to fight locally. This would have been a terrible bill for neighborhoods.

Again we thank all of you that sent letters and passed them on to friends and neighbors. Getting neighbors to work together for good rational housing solutions is what we need to keep doing.

We remain deeply concerned that the State is intentionally excluding the public from housing policy by making bills ministerial—effectively stripping away public review and undermining the democratic process. We cannot let this happen. We must stay vigilant and firmly oppose any policy that denies us a voice.

Thank you all again. We are still in meetings with the Planning Department on the Missing Middle Ordinance. We will update you shortly.

Thank you all again,

Maria, Cindy, Jeff, Marc
