A message from our friends at United Neighbors
3/9/26
Hi Everyone,
Last week might have been a bit confusing with our shift in support from C2 to C1 but after many meetings and discussions we feel very confident in that decision and want to offer our plans for moving forward. We hope we offer some clarity below.
- Which implementation option is best? As we looked at the city maps, option C1 offers more communities more protection until 2030 when SB 79 will go into full effect. C1 makes all qualifying areas near transit eligible for three story developments rather than the seven story allowed, C2 allows the same C1 three story developments but changes some areas near rail stops to allow seven story developments instead of three. C2 negatively impacts a lot of our Westside neighborhoods and the community of Westchester. According to the Planning Department, both options will satisfy Sacramento density requirements. C1 seems the more equitable option that does the least harm.
If you are a Neighborhood Council please get your CIS to the Council file quickly. CF # 25-1083. HOAs and individuals sending in statements should do so quickly as well. If you have already sent in comments, Thank you! Here is the link to the Council File to post your support for C1.It takes no time: https://cityclerk.lacity.org/publiccomment/ - Who makes the final decision? Our council members will ultimately decide which option, C1 or C 2, is adopted. We think the hearing will be around March 24. They need to hear from us.
- Do we contact councilmembers? Yes, We will soon send you a “click and send” letter supporting C1 and why. We need eight councilmembers in support of C1. Councilmembers need to hear from you. They don’t make decisions in a vacuum. They want to take the “temperature” of an issue in their district before voting. Don’t exclude yourself or your organization from being heard.
If you know where your councilmember stands on this issue, let us know. We are counting votes. Look for our “Click and Send” letter coming soon. - What can United Neighbors do? We at United Neighbors will continue to reach out to the legislative deputies for many of these council offices to make sure they understand where we stand and why. We will be talking to Planning about our concerns with their implementation plans. We will talk to the mayor’s office and supervisor’s office.
We are trying to get the best outcomes for as many communities as we can. Thank you all for being part of these efforts. We can only be effective with your support. Your support has opened a lot of doors for us to advocate on your behalf.
Best,
Maria, Cindy, Jeff, Marc
