A message from our friends at United Neighbors

11/4/2026

Today, we are hoping everyone will send letters on behalf of our neighbors who are part of Historic Preservation Overlay Zones (HPOZs). The Planning Department is currently developing ODS (Objective Design Standards) that will govern new development (ie: ADU’s)  in the HPOZ neighborhoods. Our neighbors have been working closely with the Planning Department to ensure the new objective standards proposed do not ignore the HPOZ design standards already in place for these communities.

Like our neighborhoods, HPOZs are impacted by new pro housing state laws that will attempt to open up these neighborhoods, making it easier for developers to get around existing requirements and restrictions.

The HPOZs are trying to close three loopholes in the “objective design standards”  that would negatively impact their neighborhoods and include solutions for them. The “click and send” letter explains the issues perfectly. We are always stronger together than on our own, so we hope you will take the time to send this letter out asap.  Just put your name and your community at the end of the letter so people understand we are all working together.

The letter goes to the Mayor, Planning, City Council Members, and their planning staff.  If click and send doesn’t work for you a cut and paste version is here

Next Monday we will send out a “click and send” letter to our council members regarding the Missing Middle Ordinance that will be heard on November 12 by the Planning Commission.  Talking to Planning recently, we decided it would be best to send out our concerns asap.  We will reach out to you on Monday the 9th.

Thank you all for working together, we need to not get discouraged by all the stuff being thrown at us!!!
