A message from our friends at United Neighbors

2/3/2026

Hi Everyone,

Please take a moment and send the enclosed letter to the entire delegation of LA County state legislators. Here is why.

Legislators keep passing housing bills without regard to whether a community can handle the new density.  Cities used to submit their Housing Element making sure that new housing density was added where the infrastructure could handle it.  But with newly passed State laws, residential neighborhoods are open for ten times more density if within a 1/2 mile radius of a qualifying transit stop with no required upgrades to infrastructure.

Our legislators are reluctant to go up against Scott Wiener and the special interests that support these bills. Public pressure is the only way to get our legislators to consider supporting emergency capacity studies of our streets as required by AB 747 that became law in 2019 but is not being enforced. Adding more housing should be done with safety in mind.

Wind driven fires, earthquakes and floods happen without warning.  Are we prepared to handle evacuation of our neighborhoods as more housing is being built?  All we are asking of our legislators are mandatory studies showing that streets have the capacity to handle emergency evacuations as more housing is being added.

Last week, we sent letters to our city council and mayor asking for evacuation studies. Our City Attorney and Council Member Traci Park are among the few that have voice concern to state legislators.

With one click on the “Safety First” text it will bring up a letter. This letter will go to everyone of our LA County state delegation members and their Chiefs of Staff:

SAFETY FIRST!

Feel free to put this letter on your group’s letterhead, or personalize it with your own neighborhood concerns and be sure to put your name and city at the bottom and click and send it.  Don’t worry if you get a message sending you to another website to post comments.  This is why we have included Chiefs of Staff.
