2025 3rd Quarter CyberWatch Crime Summary for South Shores

Hi folks,

Our thanks again go to Harbor LAPD Captain Brent McGuyre for providing this list of South Shores crimes for the last quarter of 2025... October 1 through December 31 of last year. Our former regular source for many years, COMPSTAT Crime Mapping, is still shut down as it works out kinks in its reporting system.  Captain McGuyre has very kindly stepped in and provided us with the information we need.

Thanks also to LAPD Burglary Division’s Thomas Baran for his years of partnership with CyberWatch.  He continues to provide us with his insights and important burglary trend info.  And, of course, SLO Melody Shortle for her prompt response on several occasions.

*Notes on Home Burglaries -The Wider View

Looking at home burglaries in nearby neighborhoods just OUTSIDE of South Shores, it was striking to see how many homes were hit this past quarter.

Here’s a location list of those victims’ homes:

    • 1700 block of Miracosta St.
    • 3200 block of S. Walker Ave.
    • 3400 block of S. Leland St.
    • 700 block of N. Bandini Ave.
    • 1300 block W. 27th St.
    • 1600 block of W. 9th St.
    • 2600 block of Dolphin St.
    • 1300 block of W. 17th St.

So, while the high profile SATG (South American Theft Group) hit South Shores hard last fall and may not have yet left our area, this more recent uptick in  break-ins seems driven by a series of more local gangs.  All with a strong focus on taking our stuff. This vigorous ramp up is a new twist in San Pedro’s history of burglaries. What it tells us:  With now 672 CyberWatch members, we need to stay vigilant, check our surveillance cameras for suspicious activity and share what we see.

OBSERVE and REPORT to:

Harbor LAPD Detective Tom Baran at 36364@lapd.online.

Be well…help keep our South Shores homes safe this New Year!
