President’s Corner 12.16.25

Greetings Neighbors:

Let’s all take a break, reflect, relax, slow down and wish each other the very best of Holiday Wishes. May we all enjoy a safe, strong, healthy 2026.

HOLIDAY LIGHTS:

Results are in, winners will be published later this week.  The response and participation were overwhelming, making the selection process difficult, fun and somewhat agonizing.

YOUR SSCA AT WORK:

The Ocean View Plaza, is now in the “purchase order” issuance stage.

CRIME & PUNISHMENT:

Following the most recent crime spree, several neighbors have elected to hire an independent security company, Secure America Protection Services.  Many of you will see their patrol cars and signs throughout South Shores.  The participation rate is now at 30, interest level is growing.  The goal and idea, achieve a participation level that would sustain a patrol car 24-7; thus, a response time of three minutes or less from anywhere in South Shores.  They can be reached at 833-483-9567, or secureamericaprotection@gmail.com.

The “ad-hoc-committee” also evaluated the Flock System, although it has proven to be very effective in thwarting crime, capturing criminals, (Brown University Shooting) it does come with a significant price tag.  The system however, can be segmented, in that, isolated egresses and regresses can be starters for those who have philanthropic tendencies.  Investigation will continue to see if discretionary funds would be available through government sources.  Contact information is Jermean Tabar, Mid-Market Account Executive 949-534-8797, https://www.flocksafety.com.

These latest efforts serve as evidence that South Shore residents will not surrender to terrorism, or bullying of any kind, and that we will fight to retain a safe neighborhood, promoting safety inside and outside our homes.

Safety, comments, or recommendations can be sent to:

president@southshoresca.org. or www.southshoresca.org

An e-bike task force has been established, whereby LAPD, LASUD and Park Rangers, work to improve effective education strategies that will reduce, or eliminate risk to both e-bikers and residents.

25th & WESTERN:

No news to report at this time.

STREET VENDORS:

As you all know, this is a constant battle.  Requesting LAPD’s assistance in curbing this activity, depletes necessary and vital resources that may be needed elsewhere.  A “dual edged sword”, for sure.  Communications with Supervisor Hahn’s office, has resulted in NO affirmative acknowledgement with County Health Department.

ILLEGAL DRIVEWAY BUSINESS:

This too appears to be an ongoing saga.  Although visited by representatives from both the Councilman’s office and LADBS inspector it appears that “halve truths” were offered as an explanation.  In any event, based on the fact that only 10 individual days are allowable in one year, this annoyance may be coming to a recess.

TUNNEL TO NOWHERE:

Dig they must.  The only activity is the digging process.

LITTLE SISTERS OF THE POOR:

This past week (12/19), it has come to light is now a “sober living” facility.  Although many of us were fearful and concerned as to what activity, or business may assume the vacancy; following the most recent sale, little or no communications was revealed prior to neighbors seeing activities that are best described as distressful.   Soon after learning of this, I reached out to the Councilman’s office for an explanation.  Although not resolved at this time, I am confident that the facts, surrounding this somewhat clandestine sale will be revealed.  The results may not be to the liking of many, but a facility that is legally licensed, humanly maintained, safe, respectful and protective of residents and neighbors alike is a “win-win”.

WANTED:

The 2026 Membership campaign is off and running.  We are seeking volunteers to serve as “block captains” to solicit participation and membership.  This campaign, is being spearheaded by our “young Turks” Mike Naylor, Brian Ward, Erin Sato and Gordon Thomas.  SO PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, HELP.  ROLE UP YOUR SLEEVES AND MAKE THE SSCA WHAT YOU WANT IT TO BE!

LEGACY:

Your SSCA secretary, Jerry Gaines (55-year SSCA member) has been called to document the history of South Shores, the formation of what was once called the South Shores Homeowners Association, now South Shores Community Association.  This effort is a true “work in process” and will require the collaborative effort and input of active and inactive members, past and present.

HOLIDAY GIVING:

Thanks to all you participated in the Marine Corp. Toys for Tots sponsored by D’Amico Real Estate and Boys & Girls Club Food and Toy Drive sponsored by HH Coastal Real Estate.  A Community paying it forward, GREAT job!

Cocoa in the Cul-de-Sac:

Thank you all for attending this event held 12/12.  It was the biggest such event with well over 100 attendees, adults and children had a cocoa good time.

DATES TO REMEMBER

  1. Holiday Lights Contest.  Judging Complete.  Announcement 12.21, awards issued 01.09.26
  2. Socialbles meet 01.18.26
  3. Annual Business Meeting, Tuesday March 10th at the Elks Lodge.

Still open the formation of a Sunshine Committee (to assist neighbors in their grieving, or wellness process), needs more volunteer.  Please consider this meaningful outreach.

As always, new ideas and volunteers are needed to implement and support existing activities.  We constantly seek new members who possess energy, new ideas and willingness to roll up their sleeves and participate or lead.

Remember, South Shores is where you chose to reside and make it home.  Together, lets continue to make it the safest and most enjoyable and friendly community in Los Angeles.

I urge you to visit the SSCA website at www.southshoresca.org or www.southshoresca.org/membership/join. for information pertaining to these and other timely events.

Respectfully,

Richard F. Scandaliato
