Subject: Sheriff Drop Off

Many of you, are probably as concerned and confused as I, regarding the recent news of LA Sheriff Deputies dropping off “homeless” in South Shores.  Several residents have inquired as “what’s going on, why and what is being done about this.”

As these events were being reported, I reached out to the offices of Councilman Buscaino, LA Supervisor Janice Hahn and Congresswoman Barragan.

Responses were immediate, indications are that an investigation is being conducted the results of which will be forwarded to me and communicated to the South Shores Community Association.

The respective responses are contained herein for your information.

“Councilman Buscaino is in contact with LA Sheriff Jim McDonnell and LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn regarding this issue. The gentleman in question was arrested on Tuesday evening at 9:50PM by LAPD. Our office in collaboration with Supervisor Hahn’s office made arrangement for mental health/homelessness service providers to visit him while on a hold to get him the services that he needs in an effort to get him off the streets.

Also, Councilman Buscaino called on the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department to conduct a full investigation into this incident, and requested that they report back to the Los Angeles City Council.”

—Ryan Ferguson, Field Deputy Councilman Joe Buscaino office

“Thank you very much for the email. We’re aware of the situation and are addressing next steps for the office. I’ll be sure to include you when we move forward with our action.”
